NDR, 2011, 2 x 45 minutes
The woman in the mini-skirt – tart or trendsetter? The man with the long hair – free-spirit or bum? Just as an outfit characterises a person, so do the rules of fashion reflect society. ‘Clothes make Germans’ tells stories taken out of everyday life and then relates these to historical events and developments within society – from the post-war women of the 40’s to the ravers of the 80’s. Prominent members of the German society scene, such as Gerit Kling, Manfred Sexauer, Christoph M. Ohrt and Grit Boettcher, share with us their fashion faux pas and most treasured garments. A rummage through the wardrobes provides us with further insights into our history, as well as top-notch entertainment: Look forward to two episodes of a colourful review that is packed with short interviews, private film documentation and fantastic archive material.
