Whether it be lactose, gluten, or protein, nothing seems more dangerous than our food. With allergies against food additives popping up like mushrooms, the industry is quick to find substitutes for everything – which satisfies the need, without anyone asking what is actually being substituted. WDR’s “Die Story” team sets out to identify the ingredients of vegan cheese and sausage. They ask what’s in the bread, when wheat flour is taboo? And what on earth is ersatz egg? Here we have a case of lots of synthetics replacing nature. Their package insert texts sound like straight out of a chemistry lab. Why is it that so many people think it is healthier?
We show how quickly a person becomes an allergic today. An entire industry of Internet tests reaps the profits. Even the manufacturers of these products are astonished by some of the claims being made about their products, and are unable to handle the rocketing demand. By the way, nutritional substitutes are often quite cheap, and the food products rather expensive. So it’s worth it.
