“Tree-climbing is a professional sport,” says Tobias Baab. Along with his colleague Paloma Ziegelmeier, one of the few women in this profession, the former forester has found his dream profession: tree care. Filmmaker Matti Bauer accompanied arborists who have adopted roping techniques from alpine climbing for an effective, tree-friendly treatment of trees. Armed with helmet, karabiners, climbing rope, and pruning saw, they climb into trees to remove deadwood and prune crowns, to prevent human injury from falling limbs. It is an airy workplace, not without perils, requiring circumspection, experience, and an unconditional love of nature.
